AP: Microsoft launching security subscription service

Associated Press is reporting that Microsoft launching security subscription service.

So let me get this straight, you now have to pay to have the people who left holes in your operating system to protect you from those holes. Of course, if you don’t pay then you and your business will be vulnerable to attack.

Isn’t this better known as a protection racket?

Seriously, don’t people pay Microsoft to provide a secure system already? Isn’t the new Windows Vista supposed to be, “the most secure and trustworthy Windows operating system yet”. So why do users need to pay extra for Microsoft to secure the product they sell as already being secure?

  1. ROTFL! Gee, how much can I pay for them to leave my computers alone?

Of course I am doing paying that silly company for anything. My brief and one time only foray into the insane world of Microsoft software was back in 1999-2000 when I had a Fujitsu Lifebook B132 (an ultra-light so cute I was even willing to try Windows98SE to use it). 18 months of pure spyware/virus/trojan-horse/buggy software later, it is trash and I learned a very important lesson: waste none of my valuable life trying to get bad software working.

I miss nothing from that world. I laugh at the protection racket (very apt and accurate discription, btw, you rock) they call XP and I routinely reject MSWord and MSExcel attachments because they are not in a standardized and publicly available format.

Life is simpler and happier. ASCII just plain rocks.

  2. Well Microsoft just sucks. What else is there to say? A more fun AP story that just moved is this:

Batwoman Is Back As a Lesbian

NEW YORK (AP) – Years after she first emerged from the Batcave, Batwoman is coming out of the closet. DC Comics is resurrecting the classic comic book character as a lesbian, unveiling the new Batwoman in July as part of an ongoing weekly series that began this year. The 5-foot-10 superhero comes with flowing red hair, knee-high red boots with spiked heels, and a form-fitting black outfit.

    See her:

  3. But the suckage just keeps increasing. It’s amazing they can stay in business.

Then again, people in this country appear to be able to tolerate anything (see the White House).

Of course, I expect people to: boycott, picket, and generally attempt to run DC comics out of business for having a homosexual main character.

    Silly americans.
