Silverball

Silverball

During my childhood I spent quite a bit of time in arcades, and in that era that meant the occasional game of pinball, but frankly I was never very good, and found the game frustrating. During college I started playing at again at the local sandwich shop, with more success this time. And during a visit to see my best friend at JMU, we found that we had both discovered an interest in the game. At the time he was hooked on a pinball game called the “Twilight Zone”, themed on the Rod Serling TV show; we spent the weekend camped out at the local 7-11 pumping quarters into their machine.

I don’t think this photo is as successful as the previous one, but it took quite a bit more setup to even pull this much off.

Gin & Tonic

Gin & Tonic

A quick “product shot” of the bottle of gin my housemate left on the counter.

The end of the semester crunch is awful, but I’m going to try and play catch-up over the next couple of weeks, and post images more than once a day — backfilling the missing shots over the last 10 days. Luckly, I made some notes about what I wanted to post, so I might be able to re-create my mood over the period.

Moldy Steps

Moldy Steps

A set of moldy steps in front of a rowhouse in Georgetown. A bit of a contrast with the previous image, don’t you think?

Life has reared it’s ugly head, and updates will probably be spotty for a bit. I’ll do my best to catch up as the month winds down.

National Association of Realtors

National Association of Realtors

In sharp contrast with and almost in the the shadow of the Capitol dome, the National Association of Realtors has a lovely, modern building. I’m not particularly happy with this shot; I should probably have made the right edge of the building perfectly vertical, and let the rest of the building fall away to the left. I’ll probably shoot this one again sometime in the next month. It is a very photogenic building.

Archives/Navy Memorial Metro

Archives/Navy Memorial Metro

I don’t think photographers can live in Washington D.C. without taking pictures of the Metro system. I’ve been trying to figure out how to capture the grandeur of the stations; I’m not really happy with this shot, but it’s the best I’ve done so far.

Paddle Boats Docked at the Tidal Basin

Paddle Boats Docked at the Tidal Basin

The last of the photos from the Cherry Blossom Festival. As a kid, I couldn’t convince my parents to take me out in the paddle boats often enough. The Tidal Basin, Jefferson Memorial and paddle boats will always be inexorably linked in my mind…

Tidal Basin Crowds

Tidal Basin Crowds

Sunset on the crowds lining the banks of the Tidal Basin. It’s a testament to how wonderful this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival was that there were still mobs of people enjoying the weather as the sun sank into the west. I know that if I had been with friends I would have not left until sleep crept up on me.

Wonderful weather, a picnic basket, and someone to share it with… we should all be so lucky!

Opportunity?

Opportunity?

You know I didn’t like my little sister either!

Actually, these girls’ parents were shooting a picture of the family’s newest addition, and I believe her older sister was just making sure she didn’t fall over backwards.

But I bet she’ll regret missing this opportunity :-)

In a Cherry Tree

In a Cherry Tree

So many children up in cherry trees last week, it’s a wonder we didn’t have a few injuries. At least everyone seems to be enjoying a surprisingly pleasant spring in D.C. I don’t think it’s rained in almost 10 days, and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of rain for this week-end as well!
