I love gadgets, and I’m exploiting that fact as part of my attempt to get fit.  I know that if I allow myself to get cool fitness gadgets, I’ll use them.  If those gadgets help me get fit, mission accomplished.

The first gadget I picked up for this adventure is the Withings WiFi Scale.  This Internet connected scale uses WiFi to post to:  web pages, Facebook, Twitter, Google Health, or Microsoft HealthVault.  You can see the smaller gadget in the right sidebar of this site, and a larger line graph of my data is here.

Unlike many of the comments on Amazon, the scale was simple to setup, and seems at least as accurate as my old scale.  I wonder if the people who are complaining about  it are just not that tech savvy, or if they have/had quality control issues.  So far mine is working exactly as expected.  The scale itself is a lovely piece of design, and even comes packaged in a box highly reminiscent of an Apple product.

Having an automatic log of my weight and fat data is nice, since that data is important for charting my fitness progress.  But my real hope is that knowing that others are watching, and possibly commenting, on my weight will keep me from reaching for the Ben & Jerry’s.
